R. Bugatti Bronze Sculpture "Panthere Marchant"

Rembrandt Bugatti (Italy/France, 1884 - 1916) bronze sculpture depicting a female panther in motion, on a rectangular marble base with felt bottom.  Signed "Bugatti" below her left paw with sculpture itself measuring 2-3/4" in height with length of 5-1/2" and depth of 1-3/4".  Marble base measures 2-3/4" in height giving the piece a full height of 5-1/2", with base length of 4-1/2" and base depth of 2-9/16".  This piece does not come with certificate of authenticity, but style and signature are consistent with those of other known works by the artist.  In overall good condition, all measurements are approximate.  It is unknown as to how the piece is adhered to the base.

It is our recommendation that all pieces be examined in person either by perspective clients or a dealer the client has asked to give them a condition report. This is consistent with our terms of sale that all goods are sold as is and all sales are final.

Dante 1629 "La Divina Comedia", N. Misserini Pub.

Dante Alighieri. La Divina Comedia [...]Con gli argomenti, & allegorie per ogni Canto [...]. In Venetia: Appresso Nicolo Misserini, 1629. 24mo (92x45 mm). contemporary paperboards with title at spine, pp. [6], 510, [24]. Architectural frame at title-page, woodcut initials and tail-pieces.

Very scarce third and last edition of “The Divine Comedy” printed in the 17th Century, renowned for its microscopic italic type. Captain Kenneth H. Hess hand-signed copy of a rare miniature hardbound edition of "The Divine Comedy", printed in Venice in 1629.

 

Provenance: From local Charlottesville, Va. estate with handwritten ownership inscription.

Charles Korschann Bronze Centerpiece Vase

Charles Korschann (Czech Republic, France, Germany, 1872-1943) bronze sculpture, depicting Art Nouveau Maiden and signed lower back "CH. Korschann Paris". Brown and green patination, probably cast at the Louchet Paris foundry; measures 11-1/2” in height with width of 9-1/2" and depth of 4".  In overall good condition, all measurements are approximate.

British Tall Case Clock, L 18th / E 19th C

Mahogany tall case clock having a banded crotch mahogany prospect door to the waist with raised rosette and moldings to the case. Banded tombstone glass door to the hood with an unusual backward curved broken scroll pediment with rosette terminations. Painted face, painted face surround is decorated with the images and names of four Continents and the major commodities that they traded. Also with image of Britannia and a ship, believed to be HMS Hope bearing a British flag, No. 44 and GWC painted to the demilune top. All resting on bracket feet. Measures approximately 91” high, 20-1/4” wide, and 9-1/2” deep. No knowledge of current working condition. Nathaniel Style, London, Carriage Mantle Clock

Nathaniel Style (from the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers, London, 1631 - 1875) signed carriage chiming mantle clock, with crown escapement and marked to front and verso "Nat. Style London".  Not in original case, would have originally been a wall hanging clock, as well as having had a pull repeat gear train that has been removed with empty holes in the plates.  Clock in case has a full height of 16-1/4", with width of 10-1/4", & depth of 5-3/4", and is in overall good vintage used condition with wood face having cracks, please see photographs.  No keys accompany this item, but clock was observed as working at time of cataloging.  All measurements are approximate.

Chinese Lacquered Storage Cabinet

Chinese storage cabinet, the front having a dark red lacquer ground with gilt and painted chinoiserie designs, the sides and back in black lacquer, the front having two doors with "moon" mounted hardware opening to reveal a top shelf and a panel lifting to access a deep lower compartment; measures approximately 76-1/4" high, 48-7/8 "wide and 26" deep.

"The Buescher" True Tone C Melody #51199 Saxophone

Buescher True Tone, Low Pitch C Melody saxophone, serial number 51199, manufactured between 1919 and 1920, having floral and banner stenciling to the bell, and mother of pearl key button detailing, in a fitted "Doublers" case which includes second smaller case for a clarinet (see photographs). Includes two (2) Mouthpieces, one (1) marked Pan-American U.S.A, the other marked Brilhart Ebolin 4; and five (5) sheet music clips. Saxophone marked “The Buescher ELKHART, IND” to the bell. Case measures approximately 13-1/2" high, 32-3/8” wide, and 7-1/4” deep. Loss to plating. Needs mechanical overhaul. Has not been played. Please refer to photographs. Mid 19th Century English rosewood cabinet having boule inlay to the top, side columns, and doors. Cast capitals to the doors, each door having a brass grille with yellow silk inserts; measures 37" in height, 43-5/8" in width, and 12-1/8" in depth. Includes one key.

Mid 19th Century English rosewood credenza having a breakfront marble top over three drawers with gilt rosettes over two open shelves flanked by doors with gilt molding and yellow silk padded inserts; measures approximately 37-1/4" in height, 74-5/8" in width, and 17-7/8" in depth. Odilon Redon Pastel on Paper Vase of Flowers

Odilon Redon (France, 1840 - 1916) unframed pastel on paper still life of flowers in a blue vase in primary color hues, complete with letter of provenance from a previous owner, please see photographs.

Measures 24-5/16" in height with width of 18-3/16" and signed to lower right "Odilon Redon".  This piece comes without certificate of authenticity, but style and signature are consistent with those of other known works by this artist.  In overall good condition, all measurements are approximate. Odilon Redon was born in Bordeaux, France on April 20, 1840 and was the son of a French emigre who had struck it rich in New Orleans, from where his namesake mother (Odile) came.  Redon received his education in Bordeaux beginning in 1851, rapidly showing talent in many art forms.  He studied drawing with Stanislas Gorin from 1855 and also became an accomplished violinist.  Although he was a contemporary of such greats as Manet, Monet, Renoir, and Cezanne, he was out of step with his generation. His favorite subjects were flowers and their fragile beauty.

Helen Frankenthaler Oil On Canvas

Helen Frankenthaler (New York, 1928 - 2011) unframed abstract oil on canvas in purple and pink hues, signed to lower left "Helen Frankenthaler" and measuring on stretcher 40" in height with 29-3/4" in width and 3/4" in depth.  In overall good condition, with the exception of three (3) pinholes which may be of the artist's design, please see photographs.  Provenance:  previously from the private collection of Lee Bowers, of Washington D.C. (Lee Bowers) who inherited it from her deceased Aunt Carolyn Edson Stuart who bought it directly from Frankenthaler' s Studio in Darien, Connecticut. In overall good condition, all measurements are approximate.
