Rene Magritte Untitled Enigmatiques Ink On Paper

Rene Francois Ghislain Magritte (Belgian, 1898 - 1967) double matted and framed ink drawing on paper depicting two violins in humanesque form, signed to lower left "Magritte". Additionally signed verso "Rene Magritte A Willy Schenk" and also stamped "Galerie Georges Giroux, Bruxelles" (which sold in 1923 according to Wikipedia works by Magritte). Gold painted wood frame measures 17-1/2" in height with width of 19-1/2" and depth of 1-3/4". Sight image measures 7-1/2" in height with width of 9-1/2". This piece is not accompanied with any authentication paperwork but signature and style are consistent with known works by this artist. Rene Magritte (Belgian, 1898-1967) was a Surrealist painter who studied art at the Academie Royale des Beaux Arts in Brussels after the tragic loss of his mother at the tender age of fourteen. Magritte was a prolific painter, who completed over 280 works between 1926 and 1930 alone. His genius as a Surrealist visual artist was recognized by the time of his death in 1967, and his work is displayed in public and private collections throughout the world.

Oronzo Gasparo Oil on Canvas Painting

Oronzo Vito Gasparo (Italian American, 1903-1969) wood framed “Poets Meeting at Echo Canyon N.M. No.5”. Signed lower left "Oronzo Gasparo 1960" and inscribed, verso “1959-1960 Poets Meeting at Echo Canyon N.M. No. 5, Oronzo Gasparo, 167 1/2 E. 115 St. New York City. the three white figures are right – Oronzo, reclining – Ninfa, left Jessica. I dedicate this work to Jessica Milman". Frame measures 36-3/4" in height with width of 43-1/2" with a sight image height of 35-1/8" and width of 42". Notes on the piece's subject matter: Jessica Millman was a known friend of the artist, and the other woman referred to as "Ninfa" could possibly be Maggie or Magdelene Egry. The gentleman depicted is that of Oronzo Gasparo himself, a known nudist. The painting is in overall good condition, all measurements are approximate.

Rufino Tamayo (New York/Mexico, 1899 - 1991) unframed gouache on paper depicting two watermelon slices titled "Sandias", signed and dated "Tamayo 0-81" to lower right. Measures 24" in height with width of 18". This piece comes without certificate of authenticity, but signature and style are consistent with those of the artist's known works. In overall good condition, all measurements are approximate. This piece is accompanied by a letter of provenance from a previous owner, please see photographs.

Danish teakwood sideboard, with sliding doors on the left and right open to reveal adjustable shelves. Center portion is a dry bar with rosewood interior having an etched mirror back and four felt lined service drawers. Also has two sliding cabinet doors and two center drawers to the bottom for extra storage. Measures approximately 45-1/4” high, 79” wide, and 20” deep.

Yury Annenkov "Helena Annenkova" Mixed Media

Yury Pavlovich Annenkov (Russian, 1889-1974) framed mixed media portrait on paper of Helena Annenkova, the artist's wife. Possibly a study for a later oil painting, signed in Cyrillic to upper right, mounted on black matting under glass. Gilt frame measures 13-1/4" in height with width of 12-1/4" and 1" in depth. The sight image measures 8-1/2" in height with 7-3/4" width. No authenticating paperwork accompanies this piece, however style, subject, and signature are all consistent with known works by the artist. In overall good condition, all measurements are approximate.
